Fir Bark makes for an excellent amendment for isopod and springtail substrates as an extra food source in the enclosure. Fir bark also makes an excellent stand-alone substrate for many reptiles that need higher humidity. Fir Bark is Hygroscopic, this means it absorbs moisture and then releases it. One of the joys of fir bark is its reusable, just boil it in hot water every 3-4 months and it'll be good as new for your critters.
